Stafford, KS 2015 Oktoberfest Support Ride

5:30 am is when confusion hit me. I'm not usually a person who encounters this hour, at-least not from this side of the dial. I stumbled down the hall, to my office and gave my best friend a pat, good ole espresso machine. My eyes begin to clear with my first shot and I begin prepping for my 30 mile drive to this morning's first destination, Stafford. Bike, helmet, thermos, kit, bottles, pump, fitbit; I am ready to roll. Radio Kansas entertains me until I reach the ride. The main street of Stafford was busy as locals arrange goods on their lawns for the day of garage sales. Check-in for the ride was simple and easy with packets full of town infor, maps, and sheets on the Oktoberfest event the ride was supporting. Eight o'clock struck and the instructions were given with the usual fare and with a police escort the ride began. There were 3 sags not including the starting point station. The ride was well marked, had police assistance at all highway crossings, and even boasted a support vehicle. This was my first organized event/ride and I was impressed. Being the first year the group of riders was a bit small but this will only improve as the years go on. There were some rumblings of including a longer ride option for next year. Overall I have to give the 1st Stafford, KS Pedal the Plains ride a solid thumbs up and I will be back next year.
